Julia says her only concern is the inequity of feelings indicated. Julia stays cool and informs Primmie that a phone call she made to the college revealed that her fall flings with students are a recurrent theme. She then threatens to keep Payne away from seeing her. With the women listening in on the intercom, Primmie gives Julia a scathing review of her style and Payne's upbringing. When Payne and Primmie are just about to return to the college, Primmie asks for a moment alone with Julia. She tells Primmie off and then apologizes to Payne for not controlling her temper and says it is because she loves him. A dramatic and poetic account of how she and Payne met proves to be too much for Julia. But Julia finds that very difficult, especially when Primmie requests a bath with lavender salts and coffee with anisette. Suzanne suggests that Julia not be so hostile toward Primmie. When Payne offers that he continues to be guided by his late father's good advice about women, Julia is moved and agrees to back off - just a bit. Payne assures her that he is not in any of Primmie's classes, although he is learning a lot from her - about life. Furthermore, it bothers her that Primmie is a professor at his college. Payne confronts his mother and asks if age is the reason for her rude treatment of Primmie. When Primmie asks Payne to take the bags up to "their room," Julia becomes incensed. and forty-years-old! Julia thinks it is a joke and asks if Primmie is Payne's girlfriend's mother. When Payne does arrive, everyone greets him with hugs and kisses befitting their "baby." Payne then presents his girl - Primrose "Primmie" Horton. It would make a lot of sense if he saw Prine as an influence for his own music and, thus, even more fitting a musical cue for the latest badass John Dutton moment.Julia's nineteen-year-old son, Payne, is bringing his new girlfriend home from college for a visit, and when Suzanne comments that Julia is going to a lot of trouble in her preparations for their arrival, Julia claims that is was her idea that Payne bring this girl home and she wants everything to be perfect. In fact, you'd have to imagine that a figure as prolific and impactful to the genres of folk, rock, and country made an impact on Kevin Costner as well the Yellowstone star and Oscar winner for Dances With Wolves also fronts his own country rock band called Kevin Costner and the Modern West. He served as an inspiration in countless modern artists, including Sturgill Simpson (another artist referenced in Yellowstone think back to Mia's favorite song in Season 3), Kacey Musgraves (whose song "Slow Burn" has also been featured in Yellowstone), Margo Price, and Kurt Vile. Rolling Stone has referred to Prine as "The Mark Twain of American Songwriting," and was able to count legends Johnny Cash and Roger Waters among his many fans. When we said "prolific," we really meant it.
In between those career bookmarks, Prine put out 16 studio albums, five live albums, and two compilation best-of albums. His debut album, John Prine, was released in 1971, and his final album, The Tree of Forgiveness, was released in 2018. Prine was a beloved folk singer-songwriter, a prolific creator of music for nearly 50 years. Here's a bit more about Prine and the episode's dedication to him: Who is John Prine? So it makes sense that an episode already named for a poignant song would have a poignant, heartfelt ending of its own. The episode's title, "All I See Is You," is named for a song by Shane Smith and the Saints from their own 2015 album titled Geronimo. Yellowstone ends every episode with a needle drop, and while they tend to all be well-curated, genre-appropriate picks, not all come with the emotional resonance that come with playing a song from Prine's final album as a tribute flashes on screen. But as that duel concludes, a voice familiar to music fans for the last 50 years-that of folk singer-songwriter John Prine-kicked in, and after a quick fade to black, a tribute to the musician flashed on screen: "In Loving Memory of John Prine." The closing moments of "All I See Is You," the third episode of Yellowstone's fourth season, features one of those trademark moments of violence, as John Dutton (Kevin Costner) kills a man who conspired against his family in a not-so-fairly-matched duel.
It's probably worth noting that every so often, between the High Stakes Montana Ranching Drama and the often-violent twists and turns that come accordingly, Yellowstone can also find ways to be legitimately tender and emotional.
